Risky Business
Here at Sky & Telescope we get wind of all kinds of reports of meteorite falls.
Few are legitimate. But on July 6th the sky really was falling over South America,
when an incoming object broke apart in the lower atmosphere with a trio of
ferocious explosions that shattered windows and shook the ground violently.
Moments later, stones rained from the sky and pelted homes in the poor barrios
surrounding the notorious city of Cali, Colombia.

Snowman time in July! - 2:24pm Friday 13th July 2007
The season took its strangest turn yet locally on Monday when residents looked out of their windows to see a hail storm -
and the ground was coated in icy hailstones. Mrs Thornhill said: "The children had been playing in the back garden earlier
in the day and it was nice and warm. "Then it was just unreal. The sky came over really black and the hailstones were so
big and heavy. "We watched the storm from the house and it covered all of the cars and lawns. It was weird as it seemed
like the middle of winter." However, Mrs Thornhill was not too happy about the sudden change in weather herself, as the
icy hail killed her plants. "It was just unreal," she said. "It must have gone on for about 20 minutes and all of my
flowerpots that are on the patio filled up with two or three inches of ice." This appears to have happened on 9 July,
within the threat. Could this be Laura's cold rain?

Falling Ice Chunks Hit Iowa Neighborhood - 07.27.07 -
Large chunks of ice, one of them reportedly about 50 pounds, fell from the sky
in this northeast Iowa city, smashing through a woman's roof and tearing through
nearby trees.
Authorities were unsure of the ice's origin but have theorized the chunks either
fell from an airplane or naturally accumulated high in the atmosphere - both
rare occurrences.
He estimated the original chunk of ice was the size of a basketball. "It was
pure white," he said. "The main parts I picked up were very smooth."
The moisture involved in such a scenario could have come from the tops of strong
thunderstorms. However, Dubuque had clear skies at the time the ice fell, said
Andy Ervin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Davenport.
"There was nothing unusual going on," he said.

Meteor Pao Pokraj Samobora? - 26.7.2007, 20:03
Prema rijecima ocevidaca izgledalo je kao da nešto gori na nebu. Zatim snažna
eksplozija, te podrhtavanje tla. Sve je trajalo nekih desetak sekundi.
SUPER-BOLIDE: On Wednesday, July 25th at approximately 10:00 UT, "a major
daylight fireball tore across the skies of Slovenia, Croatia and Italy," reports
veteran meteor observer Jure Atanackov of Maribor, Slovenia. "It produced two
bright flashes that reached an estimated magnitude of -20 and also loud sonic
booms."
Magnitude -20? In plain language, the meteor was 600 times brighter than a full
Moon. Atanackov has gathered reports from hundreds of eyewitnesses. "Most
described the fireball as very bright, its surface brightness almost as great as
the Sun's. One person said it was 'too bright to look at for more than a few
moments.'"
The July 25th fireball falls into the category of superbolides--exploding
meteors of magnitude -17 or brighter. They are, essentially, small asteroids
measuring a few to 10 meters in diameter and massing a few hundred metric tons.
Superbolides trigger seismic detectors on the ground, produce waves of
infrasound that can travel thousands of miles, and they are tracked by military
satellites scanning Earth for nuclear explosions. Recent examples include the El
Paso fireball of 1997 and the Yukon fireball of 2000.

Mag -9 meteor - Jul 31, 2007 11:15 pm
It completely stunned me, totally different to any I've seen before (not that I've seen too many).
It was brighter than a mag -8 iridium flare, so I'd say it was about mag -9.
It flew almost directly overhead, from South to North - disappearing as it passed through Cepheus,
and left an orangey trail which faded after a second or two.

RAF rejects sonic jet claims - 28 August 2007 8:17 AM
THE mystery of what caused a sonic boom-like noise over Co Down has deepened after the RAF denied reports a supersonic
fighter jet was in Ulster skies at the time.
Residents in north Down were alarmed when they heard what they thought was an earthquake on Tuesday afternoon.
"It lasted for about three seconds and I felt it right through me," she said. "It shook the decking outside, reverberating
right through it.
I was on the phone to a friend a mile away and she heard it too. "At one point I thought it was a bomb, then maybe an
earth tremor. "It was not like ordinary thunder, it was a palpable noise. It was an absolutely perfect blue sky and
I could see nothing overhead."
Maybe unrelated to a meteor.

FIERY UFO BLOWS UP OFF N.J. - September 2, 2007
Head for the hills! A mysterious giant "fireball" was spotted exploding
over the ocean off the Jersey Shore last night, but officials had no idea last
night what it was.
The unidentified falling object was first seen at about 8:40 p.m. by people on
Normandy Beach in Ocean County, and was also spotted as far away as Fire Island
and South Carolina, officials said.
"It was dispatched as a fireball, out over the ocean, going into the ocean,"
Deputy Chief Tim Cook of the Toms River, N.J., Fire Department told The Post.
At least 15 witnesses on the beach all described the same thing, he said.
"It was a large fireball that came down and sort of dropped down into the
ocean."
Some officials speculated that it may have been a
comet or a meteor, but
a spokeswoman with the New Jersey Astrological Association said, "It's news to
us." They are asking astrologers???
The rare Aurigid meteor shower - which produces blue and green lights - was
expected to take place last night, and may have been to blame. Could be!
Right place, but wrong time and size for Wormwood.

Weston, Florida USA Skyquake - September 9, 2007 Time: 1:00 AM
Had been raining, lightly thundering but this wasn't thunder. A single loud explosion or blast
(sounded like a gas stove explosion in a restaurant here few years back-that loud) that shook
the windows, french doors. I was the only one awake although everyone else woke up after & thought
maybe it was just thunder. I went outside to check but couldn't see anything.
Have noticed very strong vibrations/shaking from the ground happening every few months in the middle
of the night that last for up to a few minutes.
- Rare meteor shower to shed light on
dangerous comets
A rare meteor shower predicted to hit Earth on 1 September should give
astronomers only their second chance to study an ancient comet's crust. It could
also help them develop a warning system against an otherwise insidious threat ?
a comet aimed at Earth from the dark fringes of the solar system.
September's shower, called the alpha Aurigids, has only been seen three times
before, in 1935, 1986 and 1994. The reason for this elusiveness is the shower's
unusual origin.
The Aurigids come from a comet that takes 2000 years to orbit the Sun. With such
infrequent visits, Comet Kiess can't build up a broad dust band; it only
generates a narrow trail of debris each time.
The period of this comet is roughly 2000-years. It could be one of
Vulcan's that was originally in a 3313-year period, but has been perturbed by
interactions with the known planets such as Jupiter. The threatening comet
fragment we are anticipating could be within this current threatening cluster
that will impact Earth near 1 September, but an 8 September impact is considered
more likely even thought it is further from our Impact Threat Level centroid
time. Fragments from this comet have only been observed three times in
the past and one wonders what special condition exists that they may be observed
in 2007.

Josh house and his sister, Tracy called the Coast Guard, thinking someone was stranded... and ran to the water's edge.
The coast guard says it was probably a meteor shower

Did I see a fireball? - 15/9/2007 22:30 BST
I was out observing from my back garden on Saturday (15/9/2007) night, and saw something dramatic
at around 22:30 BST. It was a fast-ish moving streak of what I can only describe as fire (ie it
had width, not a bright satellite or ordinary meteor, and was noticeably yellow), that covered
about 15 or 20 degrees of arc in a second or so, before ending in a small explosion. No sound was
heard at any point, so it wasn't a firework or anything similar, but certainly had the brightness
of one.
From where I was (Worthing, UK, Lat: 50:49:09N Lon: 0:22:51W) it appeared to be moving diagonally
downwards from right to left, roughly across the top of Serpens Cauda towards Scutum.
-
ANOTHER FIREBALL - September 16, 2007
"After seeing the September 13th New Mexico fireball on spaceweather.com, I was
surprised to catch a very bright fireball here in Texas just two nights later,"
reports Tom King who operates an all-night, all-sky camera near Watauga, Texas,
not far from Dallas/Fort Worth. "In the video, you can see where the meteor is
bright enough to illuminate a power pole and trees!"
UPDATE: In Arkansas, astrophographer Brian Emfinger reports: "I have had my
camera shooting all night the last few nights and I have noticed quite a few
meteors--including these two bright ones on Sept. 16th. The rate is definitely
above normal." Tracing the meteors back to their point of origin reveals a
possible radiant on the outskirts of the constellation Camelopardalis:
diagram. Is a shower underway? Sky watchers, please be alert for more
"Camelopardalids" in the nights ahead.
Uh Oh! This is too much activity, and it is coming from the constellation
Camelopardalis where debris from a dangerous comet is anticipated to cross Earth
orbit on 5 October. See beginning of this summary section.

The U.S. Geological Survey is not reporting any earthquakes in our area.
Today's shaking is consistent with past sonic booms. Action News contacted
several military bases across the region but none would confirm that that was
the cause this morning.

Blue - Green Fireball Spotted Over San Juan Capistrano, California. - September 23, 2007

the front a bright object kept going out of sight. This was the first time I saw one do

UFO mystifies local officials - September 26, 2007
Aircraft accounted for, no craters found during search
The pre-dawn lightshow happened about 6:45 a.m. and could be seen from several
places on Kodiak Island. Some witnesses described a light moving across the sky
toward the Gulf of Alaska. Others saw an explosion and red tracers. The light
was bright enough to be seen from Kodiak city and Chiniak, about 20 miles away
across Chiniak Bay.
Jenny Horning said, "I saw a ball of red with streamers of red flames behind
it."
It was so bright, Pennington said, she at first thought it might be a helicopter
searchlight. Pennington didn't hear rotors though and believes she caught a
glimpse of a very bright meteor.
"It was traveling west to east and went behind a tree," Pennington said.

'Super-Meteor' Lights up Northern Sky - 29.09.2007
Finland's biggest astronomical association, Ursa, says that a light phenomenon
seen over much of northern and eastern Finland on Friday night was a meteor --
the brightest seen in the country in more than 30 years.
The editor of the organization's journal, Marko Pekkola, says it was a
superbolide, a fireball more than 100 times brighter than a full moon.
The fireball was apparently caused by a space rock striking the atmosphere over
Northern Ostrobothnia and then exploding over Finland. Ursa says the rock may
have weighed some 200 kilogrammes.

The Air Force has ordered a stand-down for all jet fighters and bombers for
Sept. 14. - September 7, 2007
The stand-down was ordered by Air Combat Command and includes all jet
fighters and bombers in the Air Force. The command, headquartered at
Langley, oversees all of the service's fighters and bombers.
This stand-down may be a drill for one to be put in place during October 7, 2007
around noon EDT. Should there be even a possibility of a major meteorite
impacting Earth around this time, it would be accompanied by fragments and
debris that it picked up while out at Kuiper belt distances where it was once
the 'biggest thing around'. It would be best not to have aircraft airborne
during an impact event, and the fighters would best be served by being protected
from the hail of stones in their revetments. Bombers may be deployed to safer areas.
It may be one of ours.

- Peru : Meteorite, Or A Crashed US Spy Satellite?
Reports from Peru now claim that more than 600 people have fallen ill after
coming into contact with the "glowing rock" or having inhaled 'toxic gases'
while visiting the massive 30 metre wide crater.
According to Peru's La Republica newspaper, due to the high number of illnesses,
district authorities are considering placing the town of Carancas, Puno, Peru in
a state of emergency.
According to the townspeople, the illnesses began after the meteorite crashed
and they began to touch the glowing rock believing it had some type of monetary
value.
The government is putting the story out that the meteorite itself is not to
blame for hundreds of people falling ill. But at the same time a declaration of
an official state of emergency is being considered. While a health centre in the
closest town to the Puno crash site has had to establish an auxiliary 'tent
hospital' to cope with all the sick people flooding ill.
One of the more intriguing theories gathering momentum on the net is that the
'meteorite' might actually be a crashed US spy satellite. The KH-13 'brand' of
thermal imaging reconnaissance satellites, purportedly weighing some 20 tons, is
being discussed on some satellite watcher chat boards as the most likely
candidate.
A crashed, ripped apart spy satellite powered by Pu238 (plutonium) fuel cells
would also explain the bizarre accounts of Peruvians who visited the crater
suffering from radiation sickness, reports that the 'meteorite' was seen glowing
soon after it hit the ground, and the even stranger claims that boiling water
was seen bubbling in the crater':
A small heap of Pu238-O2 is warm to the touch and in more abundant quantities
can boil water. In some configurations, the surface temperature of a Pu-238 fuel
element can reach 1050 degrees C.
The possibility that locals are being exposed to radiation from Pu238 fuel cells
used in satellites would also explain the concern expressed by local doctors
near the crash site that the dust thrown up by the impact might be making the
crater visitors ill.
Again, a crashed spy satellite is only a theory for now, and even if it's true,
you're probably never going to hear a confirmation of it on the
evening news.

American Spy Satellite Downed In Peru As US Nuclear Attack On Iran Thwarted
- September 20, 2007
American spy satellite downed in Peru as US nuclear
attack on Iran thwarted
Russian Military Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that one of the
United States most secretive spy satellites, the KH-13, targeting Iran was
'destroyed in its orbit' with its main power generator powered by the
radioactive isotope Pu-238 surviving re-entry and crashing in a remote region of
the South American Nation of Peru, and where hundreds are reported to be ill
from radiation poisoning.
The Peru impact does not appear to be from one of the meteor swarms that we
are tracking. But the long period meteorites that we are anticipating acquire
debris fields of small stones out at Kuiper belt ranges, and there turn into a
hail of stones and ice as they near the inner solar system. Should one of these
(from the Camelopardalis event on 16 September) have impacted the satellite, it
could have modified the satellites orbit and caused it to re-enter Earth's
atmosphere. If this happened, it would have been a very unlikely event, signifying
other major issues concerning the impending catastrophe.

Sparks Fly Over Meteorite - October 10, 2007
It's a story worthy of an "Indiana Jones" sequel:
Farmer, meanwhile, bemoans the lack of scientific access to the meteorite's
motherlode. Even Peruvian scientists say they have been turned away by the
police guarding the site. . . The more time the fragile rock spends buried in
the mud, the less scientifically valuable it will become.
"I told them, 'For the love of God, dig up the meteorite,'" Farmer said.
He said the mass could be as much as 10 tons - which would be like a moving van
falling from orbit.
"This has turned out to be an incredible event," he told me. "I've been doing
meteorites for 13 years, and nothing even close to this has ever happened."

Reports of metallic object and flaming ball falling from sky
Residents from the Twin Cities to the southwestern corner of Minnesota and into
Iowa reported seeing a flaming object shooting through the sky Wednesday (3
October), and experts said they may have been watching a meteor.
Shortly after 2 p.m., people across the Twin Cities reported seeing a "metallic"
object or "flaming ball" falling from the sky, according to broadcasters and
emergency dispatchers who got hundreds of calls from people in Edina, Maple
Grove and other suburbs. The callers said they saw the object traveling from the
northeast to the southwest.
Meanwhile, residents in Lyon County in far southwestern Minnesota reported
hearing a loud boom Wednesday.
"It sounded like a sonic boom from an F14 maybe 300 yards away. That's what it
felt like. It shook the house and when I walked outside the ground was still
shaking."

Raleigh, North Carolina USA Skyquake - October 5, 2007 2:00 PM EST
The explosions started off as a faint roaring sound, as if there was a chainsaw in the distance.
Then each one would grow louder until it became a booming trumpet-like noise that echoed and
rattled my apartment building. The closest example I can give of what it sounded like is the
sound the tripods in War of the Worlds make. The event lasted for about 15 minutes, with the
booms occurring generally once or twice per minute. Each boom seemed to be followed by a rushing
windy sound.
I live right beside a 24-hour news station, and even though people were outside looking and the
phone lines to the police were busy, there was absolutely no coverage of anything dealing with
explosions in the area.

happened while the sky was still twilight, so the magnitude may be an under-estimate.

Mystery sound rattles windows, residents; baffles officials - Oct 09,
2007
Around 12:20 p.m. Monday October 8, a series of loud booms was heard in
many parts of Jefferson City and Cole County.
Streaks were spotted in the sky by police officers not long after the booms were
heard, making them believe it was an airplane breaking the sound barrier.
Officers called the control tower at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport to see
if they could find out from the FAA what had taken place. Although no definitive
answer was found, all indications pointed to a sonic boom.
Since Monday was a state and federal holiday, the Missouri National Guard was
not flying their planes, according to spokesperson Capt. Tammy Spicer.

US 'War Alert' Issued To Russia, Western Allies - October 5, 2007
Russia's Strategic Rocket Forces (a separate branch of Russia's Armed Forces)
are reporting to the Kremlin today that Commander Col.-General Nikolai Solovtsov
has received an 'urgent' communication from his American counterparts (as per
the provisions of the START 1 Strategic Nuclear Arms Control Agreement signed
between Russia and the US in 1991) notifying Russian Military Authorities that
the United States will, essentially, go to 'full war footing' this weekend.
The reasons stated by the Americans for going on 'war footing', according to
these reports, are twofold, with the first being their intention to begin
transferring all of the their weapons grade plutonium to their Savannah River
Site located in South Carolina, and, secondly, their intention to begin their
largest 'terror exercise' in history by 'simulating' the explosion of nuclear
armed 'dirty bombs' in American cities.
These reports detail that Russian Military Leaders are 'shocked' that the
Americans would begin the transferring of their nuclear weapons grade plutonium
stocks while simultaneously holding a massive terror exercise, especially in
light of the events of September 11, 2001, and which show the confusion military
exercises can have on response times while also being attacked:

DELAWARE: Aviation officials puzzled about so-called UFO that slammed
vehicle - October 16, 2007 - [F - 16 October 2007]
At about 4 p.m. Monday15 October, the brownish, hook-shaped piece of
metal crashed through the roof of an unoccupied 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander parked
at the Happy Harry's drugstore at 536 Main St. in Stanton. Its arrival came with
a boom that one witness told Mill Creek Fire Company Chief James Howell sounded
like an explosion.
The SUV's owner, Susan Wilson, said she was inside the drugstore at the time.
When she returned to her car, she found ash and debris on the driver's seat and
gaping hole in the vehicle's roof. Nestled on the rear passenger side floor she
found the hot object still smoldering from its descent.
Once the mysterious object had cooled down, it was turned over to the FAA
personnel from the Philadelphia office. The federal agency was doing some last
procedural work on the object Tuesday, but FAA spokesman Jim Peters said he's
confident it didn't come from any plane.

Did anybody else see this in the sky? - November 7, 2007
Around 30 minutes ago (6:30 pm) I was at the SE corner of 39th and Main gazing
up towards the Northwest/ West sky while I was waiting for the light to change,
when a very bright, unusually big space object came shooting down. It was bigger
than any shooting star I've ever seen and it had to be close to our part of the
planet.
This thing I saw last night burned up after entering the atmosphere. It didn't
break up into chunks or explode the way some of them do on the Internet videos.
It just flamed for a brief time and went out. The reason I think it was a meteor
was that it came in at a steep angle.
I saw it, too. It was very big and bright, white with tints of red/orange to it.
I looked online last night and today trying to find someone else who saw it, or
some news report of it. I don't think I've ever seen something so big and bright
before.

Thursday night meteor - Nov. 8, 2007
Okay. Now two people have told me they saw a particularly big and bright meteor flash
across the sky over Baltimore Thursday evening. Here's how Joseph Lee described it:
"Hi, Frank. Last night (Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007) I was traveling on the 35th Street
east of Loch Raven Blvd, heading east. I saw a very low flying object bright blue i
n color with a very white but short tail streaking very fast from north to south.
It was much larger than the usual shooting stars we see at a high altitude.
This was around 10:30 PM. I just wonder if anyone else had seen it and reported to you. -
Joe DiCarlo, an editor at The Sun, told me late on Friday that he, too, had seen a
big meteor Thursday night while walking near the Inner Harbor. His description was
much like Joe Lee's, except that he said the meteor he saw was moving from west to east.
There's a website:
where you can read more about this subject, which is becoming more frequent ... and more scary.

Satellite Collision In Earth Orbit
Back in November, four pieces from the UARS were cataloged by the U.S. Air Force Space Command.
What caused the litter from the spacecraft appears to be the result from a single event - perhaps
a collision with another space object.
The shuttle-deployed UARS has been circling Earth since 1991. The large spacecraft had served
up important Earth climate data prior to its deactivation in late 2005.
But on November 10, UARS experienced some kind of event that produced the debris.
A second satellite hit? There was a lot of fireball activity on 8 November 2007.

What caused Comet Holmes' mysterious explosion beyond Mars? - Date Posted: Wednesday 31-Oct-2007
[Here is a fascinating story Adriana spotted. It is fascinating. It appears to
me this comet might have struck something near Mars which nobody expected - well
that's my guess. Jan]
Astronomers worldwide are very excited about the astonishing explosion of comet
P17/Holmes - discovered by UK astronomer Edwin Holmes in the late 19th
century. This usually not very bright comet travels on a wide eclipsical track
around the edge of our solar system.
On October 24, when it was nearest Mars, astronomers suddenly saw it brighten to
a huge yellow/green ball which expanded and became so bright that it is now
visible to the naked eye.Astronomers have been taking stunning photographs of it
even from well-lit cities all over the world - from China to the UK, from Russia
to Mexico.
In less than 24 hours, the 17th magnitude comet has brightened by a factor of
nearly a million -- becoming a naked-eye object in the evening sky of the
northern hemisphere.
Look for a golden 2.5th magnitude fuzzball in the constellation Perseus after
sunset. According to the chemical spectrometry readings, the explosion contained
both oxygen and carbon-based gases.
It's a total puzzle to astromers why the comet exploded. Two days later, it has
started losing its wonderful yellow luminescent glow and is now reforming into
the familiar comet-shape with a trailing tail -- but remains very bright.
From Mother Shipton
A fiery dragon will cross the sky
six times before the earth shall die. Holmes has appeared 6 times before.
Mankind will tremble and frightened be
for the six heralds in this prophecy
There is a lot of incoming debris accompaning the incoming Kuiper belt objects
and they will tend to cluster around planets. Perhaps Holmes was struck by one of
these debris objects.

What happened to 17P/Holmes? - 27 October 2007
Comet 17P/Holmes was discovered on 6 November 1892 in London by Edwin Holmes,
benefitting (already!) from an important outburst of activity. Unpredictable
outbursts are frequent in comets, but they are very rarely so large.
It was hit by another small meteor. There was a lot of debris flying around
in the August, September and October 2007 time frame.

Humongous Meteor (?) at 12:15am 14th November 2007
was just on my way to bed at about 11:30 when I thought I'd quickly set the scope up for a quick look
at Comet Holmes when I invited a neighbour to come and look. Whilst he was at the scope, I was looking
towards Mars and saw the biggest, longest, brightest meteor I've ever seen.
It stretched from around Procyon in Canis Minor (a bit of a guess, but it is roughly right as I caught
the start of it through the trees) and ended between and below Betelgeuse and Bellaxtrix. It passed
underneath Mars and was almost parallel to the horizon. If you could hold a ruler up to the path of
travel, it would have been at least 40-50cm long at arms length.
It definitely wasn't a Taurid, as any shower meteor by definition must be heading away from the
constellation its radiant is in, in this case Taurus at this time of year. It may have been a Leonid
as Joe suggested, but that would need a more accurate meteor path to confirm. The short-lived persistent
train you saw should probably have lasted longer than just a second or so from this bright an object had
it been a Leonid for instance, but local conditions (such as haze or mist) do affect train visibilities.
It is at least as likely that, as with most fireballs seen away from major shower maxima, it was a
sporadic instead.

Mystery surrounds great balls of fire - 15th November 2007
On September 6, Khristian Rawlings was shocked to see two large balls of fire,
the size and height of a large aeroplane, whizzing across the sky as he stood on
the balcony of his home in Howard Drive.
A month later What happened to October?, on November 5, Lisa Talbot saw a
brightly burning flying object, also travelling at the height of a plane, as she
left a fireworks display at the town's Meadow Park.
Comment from another.
On Friday the 5th October at 7pm i had just put my car in the garage, as
i came back across the road through my front gate in Alban Crescent, i turned to
close the gate and up in the sky i saw what i thought was a shooting star. It
took my breath away as it was so low in the sky. A fierce white light with to
what looked like a circle of green with a white tale, it didn't go bang, and it
wasn't a firework i then watched it melt away into the night sky, the whole
thing took about 7 seconds and i watched it.
These reports sound like they were associated with the 5 October
Camelopardalids debris.

Leonids 2007 - November 17 - 18, 2007 At 09:27 AM PST
November 17, 2007 At 12:29 PM PST Early this morning (11/17/07) at 1:28 AM, while driving on I-80
between Grand Island and Lincoln, NE, I happened to be looking at the Sickle when I saw a bright
flash out of the corner of my eye. I quickly looked and saw a bright triangular shaped streak about
10-12 degrees long passing through Canes Venaciti. It was easily brighter than -6 magnitude, and due
to the size of the streak, it appeared much brighter. The flash was even brighter. The weird thing
was that right in the middle of this triangular streak was a black line, a gap that seperated the
streak in half. The front half, or the half after the dark gap, appeared to have a slightly more
fringe-like edge to it. The whole thing last several seconds after the flash before disappearing.
As best as I can tell, based on the flash, gap, and overall appearance, I think I might have seen
a meteor explosion, or possibly one meteor hitting another. I traced the tail backwords towards a
spot about halfway between the center and the top edge of the Sickle. The downside, only about
five minutes before it happened I had pulled over on the side of an exit ramp alongside my friends
vehicle (the driver of that vehicle noticed the flash too, but didn't look towards it). If only
I had my camera out.....
November 18, 2007 09:27 AM PST I saw a bright fireball that was around -5. I traced it to the Sickle of Leo.
Just after I saw it, I heard a popping-whistling noise. I read that meteors can make noise if they are bright
enough. Did that fireball make noise?
November 18, 2007 10:30 PM PST I am from Kuching (Borneo) and at 2106hrs (+8 GMT) while driving in town
(so a lot of streetlights), a bit cloudy sky, and the quarter moon was nearly overhead, we saw a nice
fireball. My 15 yrs old daughter thought it was a firework and poor my 10 yrs old sitting in the back
missing it all.

insurance carriers for years over rising rates and withdrawal of services,
but officials in the Northeast have only recently joined the fray.
Companies including Allstate, State Farm and Liberty Mutual have "nonrenewed"
policies not only in hurricane-battered places like Florida and Louisiana, but
in New York and other Northern states that have not seen hurricanes in years.
Since last year, those three companies and others have turned down all new
homeowners' insurance business in New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island,
Maryland, Massachusetts and the eight downstate counties of New York.
In response to a growing torrent of complaints, state officials and lawmakers
have lately begun to push back, if gingerly, against the industry, which they
see as overreacting to the hurricane threat in the Northeast.
Its not the hurricane threat that the insurance companies are reacting to, it
is a possible tsunami induced by a
major meteorite impact in the Atlantic Ocean that is causing them concern.

Warning Of Cataclysm As The 13th Sign Of The Black Sun Arrives
The knowing of the power, and uses, of numbers by the dark overlords of humanity
is evidenced by Madame Blavatsky by her personally created crest of arms [which
contains the symbol of the Dark Sun, known to
the World today as the swastika, but whose true power, meaning, and reverence,
lie in the most ancient times of our human race.
And, contained in these 55 'words of power' there appears to lie a prediction
for these very days in that the 'sudden star' Madam Blavatsky writes about could
very well mean the mysterious appearance of Comet Holmes, or The Star of Satan
as known to us.
Her reference to the 'fire' that will 'stain' the Northern skies could,
likewise, be the sudden, and numerous reports of Fireballs currently being
reported all around the World.
Most intriguing, however, of her words is her reference to Mars 'retreating'
from Ophiuchus.
Although the
constellation Ophiuchus is not part of the zodiac the sun passes through
Ophiuchus in December each year. It streches from DECL= +14 degrees to
DECL=-30 degrees and roughly from RA=16h (140 degrees) to RA=18h 40m (280
degrees). Interestingly,
Vulcan's ephemerious places it at 264.491467 degrees (17h 38m) RA,
23.837633 DECL during 2007. Valid parallels occur when the two "planets"
involved (the Sun and Vulcan) are within 1.0 degrees, or at most 1.5 degrees, in
the (absolute) numeric value of the declination (i. e. irrespective of the sign
or "north" or "south"). When the declinations are of opposite signs (e. g. one
north and the other south) it is a "contra parallel""
and the bodies are truly opposite. Vulcan observes a contra parallel to the Sun
circa 16 December 2007 (plus or minus a few other years as well) if our
estimates of its ephemeris are correct.

Alarming Comet Swarm Warns Of Catastrophic Christmas Quake - November 29,
2007
When Italian astronomer Andrea Boattini announced from Arizona's Mount Lemmon
Observatory, this past week, of his discovery of a new comet (C/2007W-Boattini),
expected to be observable from Earth in June, 2008, it brought the number of new
comets discovered this year to 146, and which, according to Sergei Smirnov, of
the Pulkovo Observatory in St. Petersburg, constitutes 'an historically
unprecedented comet swarm' never before seen entering into our Solar System.
Of even greater importance, however, is the alignment of these three comets
(Holmes-Tuttle-Boattini) between December 18-31, 2007, and which,
according to the ancient calculations of the Persian Magi, presages violent
Earth upheavals, of which the last such alignment occurred on December 26,
2004, during which the catastrophic Great Earthquake and Tsunami occurred
costing the lives of over 250,000 human beings.
Equally important of these new astrological warnings being given to us from
these Comets is the warming, also, being given of a catastrophic upheaval of our
Earth by the Brazilian Seer Jucelino Nobrega da Luz to
the peoples of Indonesia, and as we can read as reported by the AFP News
Service:
Another Bengkulu official, Fauzan Rahim, told state-run Antara news agency that
he had seen a copy of the letter from Jucelino Nobrega da Luz, which predicted
an 8.5-magnitude quake on Sumatra, but did not give an exact location. Sumatra
is home to nine other provinces. Antara said da Luz had sent a letter in
1998 predicting the tsunami that devastated Indonesia in 2004. He also
issued a warning in 2006 forecasting September's 8.4-magnitude quake in
Bengkulu, which left 23 people dead, it said."
It goes without saying that to the Western peoples these warnings will go
unheeded as they have so far separated themselves from true knowledge that their
lives have become but simple shells of all they are capable of being. But,
though we know our words will go unheeded they must still be spoken so that no
man can ever make the accusation that they haven't been warned.
Our favorite date in this 2006 ?early 2008 period is 30 December 2007, based
on the Wormwood
Star Vision. This is within da Luz's December 18-31, 2007 interval

Bright green flash - Dec 06, 2007 12:23 am Location: Dudley
I was out with my bins at 23:50 and saw a very bright green flash that lasted a couple of seconds go by Sirius,
Whatever it was it was really bright (I'm not very good at guessing magnitudes but it was far brighter than Sirius
or Mars - more like Venus at it's brightest) - and seemed to come down much closer to the horizon than anything
I've seen before - it was quite a sight!

A meteorite weighing around two kilos landed right in the yard outside Bjorn Herigstad's home in
coastal Jaren, western Norway, over the weekend. It's the second meteorite-landing in Norway in a
month, and experts are calling the incident sensational.
When he went outside Sunday morning, he found a crater on his property, about 25 centimeters deep.
Astronomers were also excited last month when residents of northern Norway saw a meteorite streak
through the light summer sky before it hit the ground east of Tromso.

Meteor fragment crater draws crowds to Gianyar - January 03, 2008
"Residents heard an extremely loud gun-like explosion Tuesday evening around 1 a.m. At the same time,
a number of residents saw a bright object falling from the sky," Made Tekek Arimbawa, a neighborhood
leader, told reporters.
"The rocks we found resembled pumice but didn't float -- it sank in water," he said.
The hole was allegedly caused by a falling meteorite fragment.
One meter wide and around 30 centimeters deep, the cavity has turned into a large puddle in the heavy
rains that have showered the area since New Year's Eve.

Explosions are being investigated - 09 Jan 2008 8:59 EST
The Greene County Sheriff's Department was investigating Saturday night a series of explosions heard over a 10-mile area west of Springfield.
We got reports from as far away as (Missouri) 266 west of town and north to Willard of explosions and light flashes. Some were loud enough to rattle
windows at residences north of I-44 and some were barely audible.
"They did not sound like a sonic boom and there shouldn't be any blasting in that area."
He said he heard four very loud explosions and eight smaller ones. He said the first one occurred about 7:45 and they continued for about 25 or 30 minutes.

Huge Fireball over Gloucester - Jan 15, 2008 11:26 pm
A huge fireball passed from a point half way between Sirius and Procyon, towards Alph Hya.
It had a large head which burned white blue and green and trailed a thick white tail about 2 degrees long.
It was fairly slow and was visible for about 3 seconds. There was no afterglow.
This was the biggest and most spectacular fireball that I have ever seen over many decades of observing.
At 22:57 tonight just a few mins ago i was setting up as we had a clear spell but the clouds ahve rolled in
again. I was looking S/W at about 20-25 degrees something flared up & seemed to break into a couple of pieces
I have never seen anything so bright apart from the Moon & the Sun. It left a green/reddish trail.
- UFO spotted in Hastings - 16 January 2008
Mason Woodhams described seeing a "green fireball track across the sky" at about
11.05pm last night (Tuesday).
"The head of the fireball was white-yellowy-orange with a bright green fire
trail. The whole thing lasted no more than five seconds or so.
"It was quite low and slow in the sky between 15,000 and 20,000 feet, quicker
than an aeroplane but slower than a shooting star and it traveled from east to
west.
"This was obviously a meteor of some sort burning up, but the fact that it was
so low in the sky and a brilliant green colour made this so unusual.

Gross said he was out of bed to use the bathroom around 3 a.m. on Dec. 14, when
he happened to look out the window and catch a view of the object — which he
described as being twice the size of the moon — streak across the sky.
"I was looking north, at about a 30-degree angle, and saw it fly across from
west to east in an arching motion," he said. "It was so fast, just a second and
it was out of sight."
Gross said the object had similar illumination to the moon, with a fuzzy outline
and soundless.

Man spots fireball - January 21, 2008
The mystery surrounding what Spruce Grove residents believe was a meteorite that
hit an area pond last week began to unravel yesterday.
An eyewitness came forward to say he had seen a fireball shoot down from the
sky.
"I first thought it was a shooting star, but it wasn't burning out," said Eric
Whyte, who was driving southbound on Highway 2 between St. Albert and Morinville
around 10 p.m. Thursday (17 January).
"It was a big ball of fire, bright orangey in colour, and there was a big tail
behind it," he recalled.
Visitor from space?
Spruce Grove residents woke up yesterday to a mysterious octopus-shaped hole in a
frozen golf-course pond.
A hole about 1.5 metres in diameter was visible yesterday on the pond at The Links at Spruce Grove, along with at least 20 splash marks - the longest about six metres.

Bourges - Wiped off the Face of the Earth - 26.01.2008 - 11:59:46
Visitors from space ? A plane on fire ?
Just after 6pm Friday 25th January, residents inthe southern French city
of Avignon rang the local police to report seeing 'strange blue and green lights
in the sky.' Almost immediately Gendarmes and firefighters took to the roads to
follow the lights, fearing that their source may be an aircraft on fire and
about to crash. However it was quickly established that the blue and green trail
of light was in fact coming from a meteorite.
The celestial body in question eventually fell to earth just after 6.30pm, seven
kilometres from Bourges in the centre of France. (Between Bourges and the
village of Trouy). Gendarmes were quickly on the scene, when local residents
reported hearing a loud explosion.
Experts say, what fell to earth was only 'a small chunk of meteorite'. The small
souvenir from space, landed in a field several hundred metres from the nearest
house. No one was injured and there was no damage to buildings. The only trace
that the chunk of meteorite ever came down was the small hole it left on impact.
At the scene of the impact one local resident said that if the whole meteorite
had hit Bourges, the town might have been wiped off the face of the Earth. Who
said life in Bourges wasn't exciting!

US Spy Satellite 'Downed' By Israel, Say Russian Experts - January 30,
2008
Russian Space Forces (VKS) experts are reporting in the Kremlin today that the
sudden, and catastrophic, loss of one of the United States most sophisticated
spy satellites was due to a newly (January 22nd) launched Israeli spy satellite
that upon reaching the same polar orbit of its American counterpart 'ejected'
thousands of ball bearings which 'shredded' the KH-13, believed to be the US
military's most advanced reconnaissance satellite.
Hard to believe that India or Israel would do this. But a swarm of small
meteors, maybe, during this dangerous time.
