A superbolide was recorded in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina states by the
cameras of BRAMON, Clima ao Vivo and Heller & Jung Observatory in the early
morning hours of October 1st, 2020. Check out the video:
Preliminary analyses, made from the triangulation of the videos, allowed to
trace the trajectory of the superbolide. It began to shine at about 89.5 km over
the rural area to the east of Caxias do Sul and went north, at 16.9 km/s (60,900
km/h) at an entrance angle of 44o in relation to the ground. During 6
seconds, the meteor shone brightly, easily overcoming the full moon's brightness
until its final explosion and extinction at 22 km high, over the city of

METEOR FIREBALL LIGHTS UP MEXICAN SKIES AND RAINS FIRE ON NORTHERN STATES -
07 Oct 2020
Residents across northeastern Mexico were stunned when a green-hued fireball lit
up the night sky on Tuesday. Authorities reported that the fiery debris caused
localised bushfires in the vicinity.
Reports came flooding in from across the northern state of Nuevo Leon after the
suspected meteorite streaked across the sky at approximately 22:14 local time on
Tuesday night.
The amazing light show sparked a flurry of speculation online. Some claimed it
was merely part of the Draconids meteor shower which is taking place between
October 6 and 11, with an estimated frequency of 20 meteorites per hour.
Naturally, some had more outlandish theories, suggesting the only logical
explanation for the phenomenon was either that Elon Musk or aliens were
responsible.
Civil protection teams were reportedly deployed to
extinguish brush fires which broke out soon after the fireball passed overhead,
sparking concerns the unknown object may have disintegrated, posing a greater
danger to the local area than previously thought.

FIVE ASTEROIDS DUE TO BUZZ EARTH IN ONE DAY, As Scientists Claim Space Rock Once
Robbed Up To 60% Of Planet’s Atmosphere - 1 Oct, 2020
NASA has announced that at least five asteroids are due for close flybys of
Earth on October 1 alone. Meanwhile, researchers believe one giant impact in the
past once removed up to 60 percent of Earth’s atmosphere.
October appears to be kicking off with a bang as a
barrage of space-borne boulders heads our way over the course of Thursday.
Asteroid 2020 SM4, measuring 9.9m (half a bowling lane) in diameter, passed at a
distance of 3.1 million kilometers away, while the 15-meter long 2020 SU5, (as
tall as the Hollywood sign), already passed at two million kilometers.
The largest of Thursday’s unwanted visitors, 2020 RJ3, measures about half the
height of the Great Pyramid of Giza, or 69m, and is expected to pass at 5.85
million kilometers.

ASTEROID 2020 VT4 CLOSE APPROACH DISTANCE BREAKS WORLD
RECORD, NEAR MISS - Nov 15, 2020
ASTEROID 2020 VT4 takes the cake per se for breaking the record for the
closest approach to Earth ever with a near graze at just 4,192 miles out
from the planet’s center and it was not observed until one day after it actually
scathed by Earth on Friday.
-
2020 VT4 - Wikipedia
2020 VT4 is a tiny near-Earth asteroid that passed 380 km
(240 mi) above Earth's surface on 13 November 2020 at 17:20 UTC. Initially known by its internal designation A10sHcN,?the asteroid was
discovered by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) survey
at the Mauna Loa Observatory fifteen hours after its closest approach to
Earth. The Earth encounter perturbed the asteroid's trajectory from an
Earth-crossing Apollo-type orbit to an Aten-type orbit, subsequently reducing
the asteroid's heliocentric orbital period from 1.5 years to 0.86 years.
2020 VT4 passed closer to Earth than any known asteroid, except for those that
became meteors. It passed closer than 2020 QG and 2011 CQ1, which passed about
3,000 km and 5,500 km from Earth's surface, respectively. Given an estimated
absolute magnitude of 28.7, 2020 VT4 is estimated to be
around 5 to 10 metres in diameter. Had it impacted
Earth, it would mostly disintegrate during atmospheric entry and might leave a
common strewn field.

PLANETARY DEFENSES MISSED ASTEROID FLYBY THAT CAME WITHIN 400KM OF EARTH ON
FRIDAY 13TH - 18 Nov 2020
A disturbing new record for the closest asteroid flyby of the Earth has been
set, after a space rock named 2020 VT4 came within 400 kilometers (250 miles) of
the planet on Friday the 13th. And our planetary defenses missed it.
The asteroid was spotted by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System
(ATLAS) survey at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii some 15 hours after it
made its close approach from our sun-facing blind spot.
Estimated to measure between five and 10 meters (16-32 feet) in diameter (about
5.5 refrigerators stacked on top of one another), 2020 VT4 made its closest
approach at 17:20 Universal Time (UT) on Friday November 13 over the South
Pacific, near the Pitcairn Islands.
It marked the closest documented non-meteoric asteroid pass versus the Earth,
after the previous record was also set this year, when asteroid 2020 QG came
within 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles) of the Earth on August 16.
The flyby dramatically changed the asteroid's path through the solar system,
reducing its orbit from 549 days to 315 days. Its next visit is expected on
November 13, 2052, though at a much safer 1.8 million miles (2.89 million km)
away.

Falling Meteor Causes Fireball, Flash Of Light Over Parts Of Ontario - 02
Dec 2020 \
According to Dr. Denis Vida, a postdoctoral associate with the University of
Western Ontario in their physics and astronomy department, a basket-ball sized
meteor is believed to have entered the earth's atmosphere at a 45-degree angle
about 50 kilometers north of Syracuse, New York.
"We're still waiting for the data to come in, but we think that the rough size
of the object was probably in the order of 10 centimeters. And there's still a
lot of uncertainty."
As of 5 p.m., more than 80 reports were made to the American Meteor Society
regarding a fireball seen on Dec. 2.
Those in the United States appeared to hear an audible boom following the event,
Vida said.
"Someone called me and said that their house shook so much that they thought
a tree fell on the house."

Loud Boom Heard Across Central New York State Apparently A Meteoroid - 02
Dec 2020
According to the American Meteor Society, the sound heard across Central New
York came at the same time witnesses reported seeing a meteor streaking across
the sky in other areas not under dense cloud cover.
"We currently have 41 reports of this fireball." Robert Lunsford of the American
Meteor Society told us. "It seems that central New York and northern
Pennsylvania had cloudy skies and therefore did not see the fireball. If skies
had been clear I'm certain that the trajectory would shift toward central NY,
where the reports of sounds are numerous."
According to NASA Meteor Watch, a large meteoroid entered Earth's atmosphere
over Central New York between Rochester and Syracuse around noon on Wednesday.
The meteoroid was traveling westward at 56,000 miles per hour and broke into
pieces at an altitude of approximately 22 miles, according to NASA Meteor Watch.
It produced a bright flash and then booms that were heard by many people in our
area.
The "fireball" was bright enough to be shown on the Geostationary Lightning
Mapper onboard the GOES 16 weather satellite.

SEE VIDEOS OF METEOR THAT CAUSED LARGE BOOM ACROSS CENTRAL NY, ELSEWHERE -
Dec 3, 2020
The boom reported in Onondaga County and beyond was likely a sonic boom from a
meteor. The loud, far-reaching booms happen when meteors rip through the
atmosphere.
Residents from Clinton in Oneida County to Camillus called 911 Wednesday
afternoon to report an explosion. Multiple police agencies and fire departments
investigated the cause of the boom.
The first report in Onondaga County was made at 12:12 p.m.

This beautiful meteor was spotted form Spain on 2020 December 3 at 0:40 local
time (equivalent to 23:40 universal time on Dec. 2). It overflew the
Mediterranean Sea.
The bolide was generated by a rock from a comet that hit
the atmosphere at about 147,000 km/h. It began at an
altitude of about 112 km over the sea, and ended at a height of around 72 km
after traveling about 77 km in the Earth's atmosphere.
The event was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the
Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN), from the meteor-observing stations
located at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), La
Hita (Toledo), and Seville.

MYSTERIOUS FIREBALL SPOTTED IN SKIES OVER MORECAMBE, ENGLAND EXPLAINED BY
EXPERTS - 08 Dec 2020
What appeared to be a "big rock on fire" was seen over the town at around 8.15am
on Monday (December 7).
Jay's mum, Beth, said: "My son and his friend Thomas saw what the described as a
big rock on fire in the sky this morning on their way to school and Thomas got
this picture of it. Did anyone else see it around 8.15am?"
She added that the boys said that it disappeared from view after a few
moments.
We spoke to Professor Derek Ward-Thompson, who is Head of School of Natural
Sciences, at the university.
He said the most likely explanation was that it was a meteorite.
Professor Ward-Thompson said: "If it only lasted for seconds, then it is a
meteor - what is known as a fireball. This sounds most likely, as they are
describing a 'rock in the sky'.

SOUTHWESTERN IDAHO DOORBELL CAMERA CATCHES REPORTED METEOR EXPLOSION - 14
Dec 2020
A thunderous boom and flash in the sky was reported to police in southwest Idaho
over the weekend that was picked up on at least one doorbell camera in the city
of Eagle. Meteorologists that have viewed the footage say it could have resulted
from a piece of space debris that entered the Earth's atmosphere.
My first impression of the footage captured in Eagle on Friday night was that it
looked like a large aerial firework. The fact that the object made such a loud
noise that actually caused people in this neighborhood to scream out, kind of
debunks that theory.
Coming home from the Rock Creek lights in Hansen last Saturday night, my family
and I witnessed a large fireball streak across the sky above Kimberly Road. It
was enormous, and left a fiery trail that appeared to go for miles.
The video was described as likely a meteorite that exploded upon entry into the
Earth's atmosphere by one south Idaho weather professional. In the video, you
can see what appears to be a ball of fire, followed by an explosion above one of
the homes just down the street. A short time later, the sounds of excited
neighbors can be heard.
Several people in the Eagle area contacted police regarding the explosion, which
occurred sometime in the early evening hours (~8:30 PM) of December 11.
The homeowner whose camera caught the event was preparing to walk his dog. No
damage has been reported at this time.

'Loud Boom' Heard In Southern Tennessee Likely A Meteor - 10 Dec 2020
Kevin Fisher was sitting out by a fire in his backyard on the Walton Ferry
peninsula late Saturday when he saw a flash of light followed by a sonorous
boom.
Almost immediately, just before 11 p.m., residents of Hendersonville's Walton
Ferry and Indian Lake peninsulas, Old Hickory and Hermitage flooded social media
sites on Facebook and Nextdoor seeking answers.
Hill caught both a streak of light and a loud boom on Nest cameras at both his
home and at Blue Turtle Bay marina where he keeps his boat, at 10:51 p.m.
"In the camera at the marina you can see the sky light up a few seconds before
the sound reaches the marina," wrote Hill, who posted the video in a couple of
Facebook groups.

fireball that streaked across the sky on December 29 thanks to their new meteor
tracking technology.
Believed to be the first of its kind installed in Montana, the All Sky Fireball
Camera System is capable of giving a 3D atmospheric trajectory of meteors as
well as their velocity, magnitude, pre-atmospheric mass estimate for the
meteoroid and determine the orbit of the meteoroid prior to hitting Earth.
"The one that we detected the other night was if you would take a look at the
full moon in the nighttime sky, this was at least half as bright or brighter
than the full moon itself," said Hannahoe.

ASTEROID BIGGER THAN THE STATUE OF LIBERTY WILL FLY PAST EARTH ON CHRISTMAS DAY,
NASA SAYS - 24 Dec 2020
An asteroid bigger than the Statue of Liberty will fly past Earth at 8:20pm GMT
on Christmas Day, according to data from NASA's Center for Near Earth Studies.
The asteroid, called 2014 SD224, will come within 0.02019 astronomical units, or
nearly 1.9 million miles, from the Earth's surface.
2014 SD224 has a diameter anywhere between 302 and 690 feet (92 to 210 metres) -
meaning it could be more than twice the size of the Statue of Liberty (305 feet)
or bigger than Salisbury Cathedral (404 feet).
As 2014 SD224 flies past Earth, it will be travelling at a speed of 10
kilometres per second or more than 22,000 miles per hour - roughly 30 times the
speed of sound.
Despite being around eight times further out than the Moon, the asteroid is
classed as a near Earth object (NEO) and is being tracked by the space agency.
