  Meteor fireball startles the population of Chihuahua, Mexico - July 06, 2014
  Last Saturday night, at 9 pm, a fireball turned the night sky into day across several towns in Chihuahua, Mexico. Eyewitnesses reported having seen the object burst into small pieces and disintegrate after having traveled for a few minutes, leaving a white, yellow, orange and green trail on its path.
  In Parral, three explosions were first heard, and several calls were made to the authorities inquiring about their origin. At the same time, in San José de los Bailón, eyewitnesses stated that they had seen a fireball crossing the sky "as if if had been fireworks, except that it was travelling in a downward trajectory!".

  Meteorologist Luis Salazar specified for the website 24horas.cl that "according to past data, this is apparently the case of a meteor, because the weather conditions at the time do not support the theory that a tornado or something similar could have formed. The smoke column may have been due to the meteor crossing the atmosphere."
  Comment: The following video footage was aired the following day on local media, reportedly showing a meteor fireball leaving a glowing trail over the same city earlier that evening.

  The meteorite appeared to have hurtled into a wooded area near the airport around midnight Saturday, its thunderous impact felt across the capital.
  The hit was so large that it registered on the instruments Strauss’s organization uses to size up earthquakes.
  “You can see two waves: first, a small seismic wave when the meteorite hit earth, and then another stronger one, which is the impact of the sound,” he said.
  One of them, William Martinez, said it was not yet clear if the meteorite burned up completely or if it had been blasted into the soil.
  “You can see mirror-like spots on the sides of the crater from where the meteorite power-scraped the walls,” Martinez said.
  People who live near the crater told local media they heard a blast they took for an explosion, and that liquid, sand and dust were blown through the air, which smelled like something had burned.

  The impact came at 11:04 p.m. on Saturday, Ineter said.
  The blast occurred when asteroid 2014RC was some 40,000 kilometers (25,000 miles) from Earth, closer than the distance of communications satellites, officials said.
  Before midnight Saturday, the population of Managua was astonished by the sound of a huge blast, whose origin remained unknown for some time some Managua residents thought it felt like an earthquake and it wasn't until Sunday afternoon that scientists were able to determine its cause.
  The meteorite opened a crater some 12 meters (39 feet) in diameter and 5.5 meters (18 feet) deep, and had a direction of entry of 50 degrees westnorthwest, geologist William Martinez said.

  Nicaragua needs to start a PRESERVE THE CRATER CAMPAIGN before it is too late!!! Get the word out FAST! A chance that this could be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
  
  While searching one image I found what appears to be a stony meteorite type called an Ordinary Chondrite. The rock in question has geometry, rounded edges and a black surface which are consistent with that of a meteorite. If it is an Ordinary Chondrite it may NOT have enough Fe/Ni metal in it to be found with a metal detector which explains why the Nicaraguan military have not yet found anything with their machines. One thing that is likely, the rock in question seems to be missing in all of the of the other photographs that I have examined. I estimate that the rock/meteorite weighs 800g-1kg. The main mass is over 500 pounds and likely up to 1 ton and remains buried below the ground.
  Another situation similar to an astroid passing Earth and a comet fragment hitting Earth.

  William Martinez, an official who was sent to investigate the scene, told the AFP that while it remains unclear if the meteorite burned up completely or has simply blasted into the soil, the evidence of its presence is clear enough.
  NASA had announced last week that the asteroid 2014 RC, would be approximately one-tenth the distance from the center of Earth to the moon, or about 25,000 miles from Earth as it flew by on Sunday. Potential falling debris from this space-rock was not unexpected.

- Mysterious Bright, Greenish Object Streaks Across the Sky - November 4, 2014
  People across parts of the country turned their gaze skyward Monday, with two objects spotted in the night sky.
  The first object was reported after 6 p.m. across 11 states, from Georgia to Pennsylvania. The object appears to have been a meteor, Bill Cooke of the NASA Meteoroid Environment Office said.
  A second object was spotted about an hour later over Chicago.
  “The Chicago event appears to be a slow mover; could be a piece of space junk,”

  Dozens of reports of a fireball crossing the sky emerged Monday evening across 14 eastern states, from as far north as the Great Lakes states and extending as far south as Georgia and Alabama.

  On the evening of Tuesday December 9th, people in southern Poland observed a meteor "of comparable brightness to the full Moon" burn up over southern Poland,
  Preliminary analysis suggests the bolide entered the atmosphere above Opava in northern Czech Republic. Observers also reported that the fireball was green in color and was visible low on the southern horizon. Observers in Lower Silesia (southwestern Poland) reported the object to be higher in the sky and looking much brighter still.

  Colorado - A possible fireball was seen west of Colorado Springs above Mountain Shadows around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The picture was sent to News5 by viewer, Lisa.
  Meteorologist Stephen Bowers said it's likely a meteor. He said, "There are reports of this being seen around Denver, too. It's actually under review by the American Meteor Society to see if it can be classified as a fireball."
- Calgary photographer captures apparent fireball over Mount Rundle - December 22, 2014 Calgary photographer Brett Abernethy was out in Banff shooting aurora over the night sky early Saturday when he captured what appeared to be a fireball zipping over the mountains.
  Abernethy said he and a fellow photographer were set up at Johnson Lake taking a shot of Mount Rundle at around 1:22 a.m. when the sky lit up.
  “It was like daytime almost. It fragmented into three pieces. We were both in awe. Then I realized my shot was exposing as it was going on,” he said, adding he used a 40-second exposure.
